Hi All and welcome to a new year!

The new year marks the start of many things, including a new wesite. The small problem is the new website is still being developed, so it’s not quite live yet, but it will be soon – so come back and visit!

If you’re heading to university in 2010, or you know anybody who is make sure you tell them about Kickstart. Kickstart is a 3 day camp in the beginning of February for Christians heading to uni in 2010, so they can meet other Christian’s going to uni, meet older Christian uni students and learn more about the CU on their campus. Head over to http://www.afeswa.info for all the details.

If you have specific queries about CU at UWA this year, you can contact Ben Chaine, this year’s president – benc@uwacu.org

Remember – check back soon to see our new website!

Study Break & Upcoming Events

2009 September 14
by Simon

G’Day All,

I’m just getting in with this post, as I’m typing this there are 33 minutes of study break left. My apologies for the lack of updates of the website recently but between uni work & CU stuff uni life has been crazy busy.

In terms of uni work, it’s mid-semester time and CU has lots of things happening. It was great to see CUers hanging out and studying together in the Scibrary over the study break. The next few weeks are quite busy for CU, so there are few things to put in your diary. Firstly, if you want to become a member, or nominate for 2010 committee Tuesday is your last opportunity. If you can’t make it to TEAM tomorrow or Public Meeting on Tuesday, but want to do either of those, send me an e-mail (simon@uwacu.org) and we’ll work something out.

The AGM is fast approaching Monday of Week 9 (that is the 21st of Septemer) it is when TEAM common hour would usually take place – 5pm in Guild Seminar Room 2 (next to the chapel). Please come along and have your input into CU. You are welcome to join us for dinner after the AGM. Also, a reminder that if you want to vote in the AGM you must be a member of CU.

The other major thing to draw your attention to is our evangelistic series that is coming up in Weeks 9 & 10. During these two weeks we will be having some evangelistic talks in our public meetings. These talks will be more evangelistic than the pre-evangelistic style of Jesus Much? and they would be great to bring your friends along, to really challenge them. I would encourage you to spend some time in prayer over the next week thinking about who you might like to invite.

Finally the talks are once again up to date, come along this week to hear the 3rd talk this semester on Mark, continuing on from our talks on Mark’s Gospel in 1st semester. This week we are looking at Who Jesus is? Don’t worry if you’ve missed the preceding talks, you can always listen to them on the web or via the podcast.

See you all around as uni resumes

I’m off to enjoy the last 22 minutes of study break…. {only 16 mins after edits!}

Week 4

by Simon

Hi All,

I can’t believe it’s week 4 already! I’ve also noticed that a lot of people seem to be busy already which seems earlier in semester than usual…

I’ve uploaded the talks from last week and this week (sorry about the delay in the former, I was having a few technical issues). Next week is the last Joshua talk in our series “God Delivers” make sure you come along to here the conclusion.

Also keep an eye out for CUs new banner on campus next week – the colour should catch your eye, it’s the same as the Jesus Much T-Shirts!

MYC Talks & Next Week

2009 August 6
by Simon

Hi All,

Hope you’re all starting to get into the swing of things as the end of the 3rd week of semester is here (time flies when you’re having fun). 3 weeks into semester means 3 weeks after MYC, that means that I now have the MYC talk recordings sitting on a CD on my desk! In about 10-15 mins they should be on the website, in the talks section.

Next week we have the second last Joshua talk – “When God’s people sin” from Joshua 7-8. The talks have been fantastic so far, so come along and learn more about our awesome God! Also, semester is really starting to get underway now, so if you’re keen to be involved in a small group or TEAM or any other regular CU activities now is the time! If you need any more info drop me an e-mail.

A bit more semester 2 news – we now have a location for our 2nd Public Meeting, our Wednesday public meeting in held at 12pm in Social Sciences G.202. Also if you missed the news last time our Tuesday Public Meetings are now in Social Sciences LT.

A reminder also that TEAM Common Hour starts next week, this is a seminar style hour where we look at a topic of interest. This semester we’re looking at eschatology (the last times). Come along to Guild Seminar Room 2 (next to the chapel) at Monday on 5pm if you’re interested. For more details on TEAM, Public Meeting or any other CU events, just drop me an e-mail – simon@uwacu.org

Hey All,

I hope you’ve all had a chance to have a relaxing holiday and are ready for an exciting Semester at CU! By the end of tonight, the rest of the website should be updated with all the news for Semester 2! There are lots of exciting things happening, so make sure you have a look around.

If you want a summary of the important news, you can download our public meeting brochure and our TEAM brochure.

This semester we are really encouraging people to think about how much time they want to spend doing CU activities and in light of this would activities would be the most beneficial for people. If you are unsure about this we would strongly encourage you to talk to a sraffworker, your faculty small group leaders or one of the committee.

As usual if you have any queries or suggestions feel free to drop me an e-mail – simon@uwacu.org

Special news for week 1 – we’re planning to run a stall for the reaminder of this week from 11-1 in the guild court yard, so come and say Hi if you’re around. Also this semester Tuesday Public Meetings are being held in Social Sciences Lecture Theatre, not Tattersall, so make sure you go to Social Sciences LT at Ipm tomorrow, you don’t want to miss the 1st talk of the semester on the book of Joshua 1-2, talking about God, His Spies & a Sex Worker. I hope to see you all there and look forward to seeing you all around uni this semester as we continue to serve Jesus for His renown on campus.
